My family and I went to Appomattox Court House today. It's the town where Grant and Lee signed the peace treaty to end the Civil War. One of the men that lived in Appomattox Court House (probably one of like, four...the town is tiny) moved there because of the Civil War. Wilmer Mclean had lived in Manassas, Virginia, where the first major battle of the Civil War occurred. His house was destroyed because of the battle, so he decided to move to what he thought was the most remote corner of Virginia, where the war would never find him or his family. Well.... it did. Grant and Lee used his parlor as a meeting place to sign the treaty. The Civil War started in Mclean's front yard, and ended in his front parlor. Here's a video I took on my phone of the town. I've always thought that the things that people decide to put into museums are very strange. I never realized how morose and weird museums could possibly be until I went to a few in Cuba where they displayed old toothbrushes, combs, and bloody clothes. I thought the Cubans were in their own league after seeing old crusty toothbrushes on display. That is, until I saw this:


Gross. Well, I hope you all still have your appetites for Thanksgiving leftovers.
